2025 Sale: 98% Clearance with new clients seeking carcass and growth

A total of 246 / 250 rams sold at Haddon Rig’s annual 2-tooth sale on Thursday, 11th of September, representing a 98% clearance. Strong demand exhibited for the Polls with 120 polls sold out of 120 offered.

Clients came looking to take advantage of the current wether job, by continuing to build carcass and growth into their flocks using HR polls. With above industry averages for Post Weaning Weight and Yearling Weight, there was a lot of support for large-framed polls, that combined body with high yearling and adult clean fleece weights.

The top price paid across the Sale was $16,000 for Poll Lot for loyal clients, James and Jo Morris, Bonanza Merinos, Walgett. Lot 1 is a large-bodied, free-growing ram out of Sire PB2000780. HR will use him in their 2025 AI program as a semen sire. Lot 1 is an 18.6 micron poll ram, CF 99.4 and BWT 110kgs. He has a PWWT of 4.73, a YWT of 5.83, Yearling Clean Fleece Weight of 36.34, a Wool Production Index of 193.63. The full package.

The top priced horn ram, Lot 5 was purchased by Tony and Rhonda Milgate, who paid $12,000 a large-framed 18.7 micron ram out of Sire W220310. With a soft, bright, white, well-defined wool.

Other notable purchases included Alastair and Dougie Wilson, from Wilson Pastoral Co, Walgett who purchased Poll Lot 3 for $12,000

Stud principal, Liv Falkiner says of the day, ‘we’ve been really encouraged by the growth of our Poll stud and the achievements of our clients in the sale yards, off the boards and at marking. That’s where it really matters for us – when the dollars hit their pockets, we know we’re heading in the right direction.”

“Going forward, we continue to focus on carcass and growth, to maximise returns for our clients in the wether job, whilst improving fertility and keeping that wool quality we’re known for. The new clients through the gate are communicating to us they want to build that wool piece back into their flocks and to improve feet and structure – which have always been core focuses of ours. We’re looking forward to continuing our breeding journey and working with clients to bring in more returns for their merino enterprises.”
