Dear Merino breeders,
Exciting developments are underway at Haddon Rig!
2024 has been another remarkable year in the Merino game, marked by a strong recovery in surplus stock Merino sheep and lamb prices since the low point of August-September 2023. Coupled with a favourable season break across December-January 2024, we have much to celebrate.
On-farm, we are setting ourselves up to capitalise on the recovery of meat prices, focusing on labour efficiency and profitability. Our priorities include fencing, more interior laneways and sheepyards, on-farm grain and fertiliser storage, and vermin-proof exclusion fencing.
Our Poll stud continues to grow in number and quality. We have added another 400 Moorundie ewes to our base, classed over 1288 Poll ram lambs, and are seeing strong lambs in the paddock. Our 2150-head AI program has used rams with industry-leading ASBVs to improve early growth, wool, and carcass traits while maintaining our wool quality. We are also excited to be launching a new website to enhance our digital presence.
We look forward to seeing you at our 41st Annual On-Property Ram Sale on Thursday 12 September 2024 at Haddon Rig Merino & Poll Merino Stud. Inspections start at 9am, with the sale beginning at 12:30pm.
