Position Vacant: Leading Hand, Haddon Rig Farming
Haddon Rig is a progressive family farming business currently seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and self-motivated Leading Hand for a property called “Boomanulla” located near Warren, NSW. Boomanulla is a 2000-hectare property, growing broadacre crops (wheat, canola, chickpeas, sorghum, barley etc.) and irrigated cotton.
The Leading Hand will help run an irrigated cotton operation at Boomanulla but also be heavily involved in dryland farming at “Boomanulla” and sometimes at Haddon Rig (5 km away). The leading hand will be self-motivated, able to work within a team but also alone when required, be physically fit and able to work to a schedule (timing of irrigation, planting dates etc.) and manage a team of employees and contractors. They will report daily to the Haddon Rig Farming manager.
The successful applicant will satisfy the following criteria:
— Experience with irrigated cropping (including at least 3-years syphon irrigation experience)
— Experience with chemical handling (certifications preferred)
— General welding and mechanical knowledge
— Have a driver’s licence
— MC licence preferred but not essential
Responsibilities will include:
— Operations and maintenance of farm machinery and equipment
— Implementation and adherence to farm safety and WHS requirements
— Training and management of staff (mostly seasonal and Farm Operators)
— Working in conjunction with the Haddon Rig Cropping Manager to develop Farm Plans, including cropping schedules and managing personnel
— Reporting to the Manager on a daily basis to oversee dryland and irrigation farming
— Directing and coordinates worker activities, such as sowing, irrigation, chemical application (spraying), land management, and harvesting
