Dear Sheep Breeder,
It's been a busy few weeks for the team at HR. We've been marking and DNA testing our lambs - who are enjoying the abundant feed. Says Stud Classer, Stuart Murdoch 'You couldn't get them any fatter. The lambs have plenty of sting and they're very consistent.' We have also trialled early-joining of our ewe-lambs. With an average weight of 48kgs, they have scanned 70% in-lamb and are maintaining great condition ahead of lambing in mid-August. We'll provide an update on this trial in our next issue.
In addition we've been side-sampling our 2020 Horned and Poll Merino sale team. Needless to say they are looking great - with strong weights (avg. 88 kg and gaining 2.5 kg/week), excellent confirmation and great wool quality. We've included a short video of the Poll Sale team below. We are also working to catalogue our Merino and Poll Sale team and will release all details (ASBVs, photos, videos) on our social channels in coming weeks, as well as in our 2020 Newsletter (to be published next month).
We look forward to hosting you at our 2020 On-Property 2-Tooth Sale where we will offer 150 Horned and 100 Poll Merinos. Our sale team will be available for 'virtual inspection' in coming weeks and you can bid online with AuctionsPlus (link below!). Please also contact Andy to arrange an in-person inspection.

HR MARKING RESULTS
Our stellar genetics have proven their value again, with some great results at lamb-marking. Despite joining in one of the toughest seasons on record and with some tricky lambing conditions (huge downpour, cold weather!) the team have managed some great lambing results. We have learnt some lessons this year - particularly about spreading out our lambing to solve for adverse weather events, and keeping a close eye on our twin and triplet bearing ewes to monitor and manage them through delivery.
Pictured here are the results of our mixed-age commercial twin-bearing flock ewes, which lambed at an amazing 166%.
We are so proud of the quality and condition of this year's lambs and ewes - full bodies, high fat score and with amazing growth already with some of the top lambs weighing in at 20kg at just 6 weeks old.
HR flock rams are bred to perform in all different conditions but with Summers getting longer and hotter, it's that consistency and fertility that we are really proud of. We are committed to working with our clients to improve their bottom line. For us, this means bigger, stronger and more lambs on the ground with that famous HR wool quality, year after year.
